Badminton grip

The most common grip for a smash is the forehand grip. To do this, grip the racket with the V-shape formed by your thumb and index finger pointing diagonally upwards. Your other fingers should curl naturally around the handle.

Stance

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your weight evenly distributed. Your knees should be slightly bent and your torso should be slightly rotated so that your shoulder is facing the net.

Backswing

As the shuttlecock approaches, raise your racket back behind your head. Your arm should be extended and your elbow should be high.

Swing

Step forward with your opposite foot and swing your racket down and forwards in a smooth arc. Your wrist should snap at the moment of impact to generate power.

Follow-through

Continue the swing motion until your racket is pointing towards the ground. Your body should also follow through with the swing.

Here are some additional tips for performing a smash:

  • Keep your eye on the shuttlecock at all times.
  • Make sure you hit the shuttlecock at the highest point of your jump.
  • Use your core muscles to generate power.
  • Practice regularly to improve your technique.

With practice, you can learn to perform a powerful and effective smash that will help you win badminton matches.
